September 18th 1885, One hundred and fourteen years ago, Daniel David Palmer made history. Dr. Palmer asked his janitor, Harvey Lillard about his hearing loss. Mr. Lillard said that he was bending over in a closet when he felt something pop in his back. His hearing was immediately gone. Dr. Palmer examined him and found a vertebra out of place. He reasoned that if the vertebra was put back into the right position, the problem could be solved. Dr. Palmer used his hands to move the bone back into its proper position. It worked. Harvey could “Hear the wagons on the street!”

This was the birth of modern chiropractic. Dr. Palmer worked tirelessly to find out how this had worked. His research led him to an understanding of nerves and nerve function. Modern research upholds Dr. Palmer’s conclusions. Chiropractic adjustments open the nerve channels allowing the body to heal itself.

We moved to Louisville in 1998 and opened our office. I have seen first hand how chiropractic helps people suffering with low back pain, sciatica, neck pain, migraines, headaches and neuropathy. We often see things like acid reflux, allergies, dizziness and asthma clear up as the spine is put back into its proper alignment.

I want to take a minute to thank Dr. DD Palmer and Dr. BJ Palmer for their tireless work to establish the science and philosophy of chiropractic. Thank you to the Chiropractors of Louisville and Kentucky for fighting for the state to license chiropractic in Kentucky. Thank you to the patients who, despite everything, fought for their rights to seek chiropractic care. None of them did it for fame or glory. They did it for the same reason that the Chiropractors in Louisville and in our office go to work every day. They knew then and we know now. It is the right thing to do!
