ShareHow to choose a chiropractor
Posted by: | CommentsHow do I pick a doctor of chiropractic?
There are several criteria I consider when referring patients to other doctors of any type. This can also help you when selecting a Chiropractor.
1) What has that doctor studied ?
Not all doctors are trained alike. Some spend a lot of time studying, learning, and growing. Others simply complete a minimum amount of continuing education as required by their state. Most Doctors have a resume that spells out their formal education and their continuing education. This resume is called their curriculum vitae. If you want to know.. ask for it.
2) Has he or she worked with problems like yours before?
For example, I recently talked with a neurosurgeon to get a referral for a patient and I asked one key question. Does he have experience with this type of condition?
3) Does he care about you?
One of the most important aspects of choosing a doctor of chiropractic is your relationship. Trust, likeability, and testimonials from previous patients go a long way toward establishing a relationship.
4) Is she willing to work as part of my health care team?
Health care is a team work approach. With the volume of information that is developing every day, it becomes less and less likely that one person can learn it all. Our office routinely sends reports to your medical doctor, and refers to specialists (neurologist, radiologist, orthopedic surgeons etc).
5) Is he trained on special testing?
Do they understand how to read X-ray films, MRI’s and other special tests? Why? I teach doctors this theory, “If a picture is worth a thousand words, why do you want a report?” Of course you want the opinion of the radiologist, but a picture tells you so much more.
6) Do they have a plan and chart your progress regularly?
I sometimes get patients who have been seeing the same doctor for 2-3-5 or even 10 years, I ask them about the last time they had an examination or x-rays. They respond “It’s been years.”
7) Does he listen to me and understand my problem?
When choosing any doctor consider: technical excellence, experience, and your ability to relate to and talk with them. These are the foundations of a relationship you can trust.
