  1. Sit in an ergonomic chair while working. Your back will feel better and as a bonus your productivity will go way up. You may even occasionally stand throughout the day. Many of my patients see me standing while I type throughout the day. It helps to mix things up.
  2. Think about your posture when you’re eating, watching TV, sleeping, working and riding in your car. Work on it during those moments when it’s on the top of your mind.
  3. Buy some back supports and use them in your car and in the chairs you sit in the most at home. We have some handy in our lobby. Try one out next time you’re in.
  4. Get regular maintenance adjustments from your trusted Louisville ChiropractorAsk us today about setting up your own maintenance plan.

Bonus Tip:

Don’t carry a George Constanza sized wallet in your back pocket. This is a simple tip but one that many guys ignore to their detriment. Carry it in your front pocket when sitting. Enjoy the diversion!

This is not a post about our opinion on the health care reform debate. This is a post to remind us that prevention still rules the debate on health care. So the cliche is that an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure. Well it is a cliche but it still works.

Prevention is proactive. Prevention is much less expensive than one trip to the doctor or hospital for one issue. What if you came up with your own maintenance and prevention plan? What if chiropractic care was at the heart of that plan, along with nutrition, exercise and other stress reducing therapies.

Sure most people come to the chiropractor when something hurts. My back hurts due to sciatica or  … my neck hurts from whiplash … so fix me. However, once some people come they see the long term value of chiropractic as a part of their wellness plans.

You have heard all of your life that you several things are necessary for good health. Good nutrition, plenty of sleep, exercise, plenty of clean water, and a properly functioning nervous system. Your health insurance plan doesn’t pay for any of those things. What does it pay for? It pays, usually, when you become sick. What you actually have and pay for is “sick care insurance”. And it’s very important to have that because the 3rd leading cause of bankruptcy in the US is medical bills. If you are rushed to the hospital, the bills add up very very quickly.

Some research on MyMedicalCosts.com shows how quickly costs add up.

Here are some of the average costs of procedures in and around Louisville, KY for treatment of back problems. I am sure these costs are not all inclusive as some are needed repetitively.

Trigger Point Injections (1 or 2 muscles) $802 per injection

Epidural (spinal injections given in series of 3) $2,224 per injection

Lumbar Disc Surgery $21,577

Chiropractic adjustment (preventative) $49

When you compare the cost, preventative chiropractic care just makes sense.

Know Your Health Scores

Posted by: Patrick Lowe | Comments (0)
In anything we do, the best way to track progress is with scores.  Do you know your health scores?  You may know your height and weight but do you know how much of that weight is muscle and essential organs and how much is fat?   Do you know your resting blood pressure and pulse rates and what they mean?
Do you love to get massages? Louisville Health Check has a team of health professionals who will provide all that along with posture screenings to you and your co-workers at no charge. Additional services can be requested by your company.
They set up Health Fairs at your company, check it out and forward it to your Human Resources Director.  If they already do health fairs, it is a lot of work. They will welcome the help of getting the job done. If they don’t already offer health fairs, they would probably love to, if it’s easy and inexpensive.  Here’s the link.
